Community gardens are a critical component of Aurora's sustainability vision. A community garden is a shared green space created and cultivated by volunteers to grow vegetables, fruits and herbs for personal or community use. Aurora has 24 public community gardens where residents can reserve a plot for
the season. Plot fees cost about $45 for a growing season (fees vary by location; ability to pay is often considered). Plots fill up quickly. Contact a garden near you (listed below) to learn more and apply.
Are you interested in starting a community garden in Aurora? The Dig in Aurora Community Garden Handbook is a resource for groups or individuals looking to build their own community garden. This handbook outlines the process, provides a single point of contact, and helps you understand city requirements. For more details, contact us at [email protected] or 720.859.4407.
Participating community gardens have access to the Movie Kit Rental Program.

Aurora's 3rd Annual Seed Swap
Take home seeds for free and kickstart your gardening journey at our seed trading event! Explore a wide variety of seeds and bring packets of your own to exchange with fellow community members. Be sure to label your seed packets with their variety—paper envelopes are preferred, though plastic baggies are also accepted. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re sharing the abundance of your garden or swapping store-bought packets. Even seeds from 2019 are accepted, except squash and beans, which never expire!
Chat with knowledgeable volunteers and experienced gardeners to get valuable tips and advice for your garden. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to grow your garden, share resources and connect with your community. Let’s plant the seeds for a greener future together!
- Saturday, Feb. 8
- 10 a.m. to noon
- Mission Viejo Library, 15324 E. Hampden Circle, Community Room
This seed swap is brought to you by Aurora Water, the Aurora Community Garden Network and Aurora Seed Library. Email [email protected] to learn more or with any questions.
Aurora Community Garden Network
The Aurora Community Garden Network (ACGN) is a group of community garden leaders and members facilitated by the city of Aurora.
ACGN celebrates all the diverse community gardens in the city of Aurora. We strive to build a cross-cultural community and support the ability of gardeners to define their own food system. We provide resources like seeds, tools, and volunteers and provide knowledge like water conservation and sustainability best practices.
Volunteers Wanted
Aurora’s community gardens would love assistance from
volunteers! You do not have to be an existing member of a community garden to
pitch in. Upcoming 2025 volunteer projects include: garden clean-ups, summer
weeding, event assistance, and more.
Please check volunteer opportunities via the volunteer portal at AuroraGov.org/Volunteer.
2024 Dig in Aurora Community Garden Competition Winners
Kudos to the Vista Peak, Murphy Creek, Nome Park, and Sanctuary Community Gardens community gardeners for winning awards in the 2024 Dig in Aurora Community Garden Competition. This light-hearted competition among
Aurora’s community gardens allows groups across the city to meet other gardeners, get new ideas and have fun.
Vista Peak Community Garden walked away with the coveted golden trowel award, honoring the hard and fun work gardeners put into making that garden special. Aurora Mental Health & Recovery Community Garden and Nome Park Community Garden also received honorable mentions and prizes for their gardens.
Aurora Water and Nick's Garden Center sponsored this year's event. Thank you to our judges Marisa Loury from Denver Urban Gardens, Anjani Moro and Mallory Orr from Food Justice Northwest Aurora, and Colette Haskell from Nick’s Garden Center.
