ThPublic Works Department is responsible for providing safe, effective transportation and building within the city of Aurora through quality planning, design, construction and maintenance. The department employs people in various capabilities to achieve the goals of the department.

Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Public Works Department is to effectively promote and maintain a high level of economic welfare and quality of life in Aurora through the planning, design, construction, inspection, review, approval and maintenance of Aurora's transportation and drainage infrastructure.

Goals:

  • Continually improve and maintain the city's transportation infrastructure as its population grows.

  • Effectively promote citizens, businesses and roadway users with exceptional quality engineering, inspection, development review, floodplain management, right-of-way, traffic and maintenance services.

Engineering Division

Works in accordance with sound engineering principles and practices to provide oversight, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and implementation of infrastructure and program needs.

Real Property Services

The Real Property Services Division in the city's Public Works Department is responsible for acquiring, leasing and disposing of city-owned property. The division also provides surveying services to city departments, including boundary, design and construction, and maintaining a robust horizontal and vertical control network to aid private surveyors and firms with their work in Aurora.

Land Development Review Services

The Land Development Review Services team is responsible for development application referral reviews of subdivision plats, annexation plats, site plans, easement/right-of-way dedications and releases by separate instrument, research, development-related licensing, development review meetings, and fiber/wireless communications facilities licensing.

Parking & Mobility

Support the growth and development of the Aurora community through the implementation of community based parking management strategies and coordinated mobility enhancements. Parking management will achieve this mission by being:

  • Customer-focused
  • Self-sustaining (long-term)
  • Financially accountable

Fleet Services

Fleet Management is responsible for managing the purchase, repair, maintenance and fuel for more than 3,000 pieces of equipment for the city of Aurora. Staff consists of 48 employees, with 30 ASE Certified Technicians who work in a light and heavy shop building.
