Drive Smart in Work Zones

Cone Zone

Aurora Water crews are taking advantage of the summer season and completing a bevy of maintenance projects to ensure operations remain seamless for its customers. Sometimes the work requires crews to shut down lanes of traffic to access pipes and water mains that lie beneath the concrete. Despite the frustration drivers experience from these traffic impacts, Aurora Water is reminding drivers to use caution when passing through such areas, also known as“cone zones.”

Lane closures are typically marked off by cones, and drivers should pay close attention to these and the various forms of signage to help them navigate safely through work zones. The following tips are critical to ensuring the safety of drivers and city personnel:

• Slow down and drive with care when approaching a cone zone.

• Where there are cones there are always people.

• You may be able to see work zone personnel, but they can’t always see you.

• Show respect for the people working at the side of the road.

• Stay alert and minimize your distractions.
