(March 26, 2025) - The Aurora Police Department is investigating a pursuit and attempted homicide of peace officers that stemmed from a felony menacing call early Wednesday morning in northwest Aurora.
About 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aurora patrol officers responded to a report of a menacing with a deadly weapon in the 3200 block of Carson Street. While officers were responding to the scene, the victim told dispatchers the suspects fled in a small, red Chevrolet pickup.
About five minutes later, officers located a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description near East Colfax Avenue and Sable Boulevard. Officers followed the red pickup as it entered southbound Interstate 225.
While officers were following the suspect vehicle, a white Ford pickup pulled in front of the officers. Officers attempted to drive around the Ford, but it swerved on the highway preventing officers from pulling behind the suspect vehicle.
Officers on the highway remained in contact with officers at the initial scene. After confirming information with the victim about the felony menacing call, a sergeant authorized a pursuit. Pursuing officers activated lights and sirens, at which point the driver of the white Ford pickup fired multiple shots at officers.
A Precision Immobilization Technique, or PIT maneuver, was authorized on the white Ford. Officers successfully executed the PIT maneuver on southbound Interstate 25 and the East Arapahoe Road off ramp.
The white Ford rolled onto its roof. A man and a woman ran from the scene. They were quickly located and detained by deputies and officers from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Greenwood Village Police Department.
The man and the woman were both taken to local hospitals for evaluation. The woman, a 21-year-old Denver resident, has since been released and is cooperating with the investigation.
The man, subsequently identified as Aaron Wallace, 31, of Lakewood, remains in the hospital. He will be arrested upon his release and booked into the Aurora Detention Center on three counts of Attempted 1st Degree Murder of a Police Officer. Additional charges are pending and will be coordinated through the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
A firearm with an extended magazine has been recovered. Investigators are actively searching for the driver of the red Chevrolet pickup, who is not in custody.
“The officers involved in this incident demonstrated poise, dedication and bravery throughout this tense and dangerous call,” said Kevin Barnes, chief of the Aurora Police Department’s Patrol Division. “I am continually impressed with the professionalism of our officers, and their ability to rise to the occasion, even when their lives are placed in imminent danger by violent offenders.”
There are several active and ongoing investigations stemming from the incident.
The Crime Gun Intelligence Unit, which specializes in firearms-related crimes, is leading an investigation into the entire incident, including the initial report of a felony menacing with a firearm, the pursuit, the attempted homicide of Aurora police officers and the PIT maneuver.
The Major Crime Homicide Unit is investigating the PIT maneuver that is being reviewed as a use of force.
The Internal Investigations Bureau is conducting an administrative review of the incident, focusing on the involved officers’ compliance with agency policies and training.
A search is actively underway for the driver of the red Chevrolet pickup, who investigators believe was involved in the initial felony menacing call. Anyone with any information about the suspect or the vehicle is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
