Aurora welcomes new Consulate General of Honduras, the second diplomatic post in the city
The city of Aurora is honored to welcome the new Consulate General of Honduras in Colorado, the second diplomatic post headquartered in the city.
The inauguration ceremony, held in collaboration with the city of Aurora’s Office of International and Immigrant Affairs, will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the office of the Consulate General of Honduras, 14707 E. Second Ave., Suite 180.
Her Excellency Xiomara Castro Sarmiento, President of the Republic of Honduras, in her upmost concern for the well-being of the Honduran migrant community, made the decision to open new Consular Representations in the United States of America. On this occasion, Aurora was chosen as the location due to the city's strategic focus as an international destination for business and tourism, and because of its large Honduran population.
Concerning this, the Honorable Vice Minister of Consular and Migratory Affairs, Ambassador Antonio García Carranza, will attend the inauguration ceremony. Media outlets are invited to cover the event.
The new consulate, led by Consul General Tamara Toro Rivera, will provide consular services to Hondurans residing in Colorado and various other states in the Intermountain-Midwest region. In addition, the Consulate General will promote international trade relations and assist in exploring business opportunities between Honduras and the state of Colorado.
The Consulate General of Honduras has expressed strong interest in learning more about the best practices of the Aurora Immigrant Integration Plan, which is recognized across the United States and facilitates the successful integration of immigrants and refugees into the civic, economic and cultural life of the city.
“One of Aurora’s greatest strengths is the city's international community,” said Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman. “We are delighted to host the new Consulate General of Honduras and to continue building strong relationships with the Honduran community in Colorado.”
Aurora is the most culturally diverse city in Colorado and the 52nd largest city in the country. One in five residents was born abroad, and more than 160 languages are spoken in Aurora schools. Approximately 15,000 Hondurans live in Colorado, most of whom reside in Aurora.
In May 2017, El Salvador officially opened its consulate in Aurora, thanks to the efforts of the Office of International and Immigrant Affairs. It was the first consulate in Colorado located outside Denver. The opening of the new Consulate General of Honduras in Aurora reaffirms the city's growing potential to be part of integrative processes, attracting entrepreneurs, investments, business opportunities and trade from around the world.
