Aurora, Colorado (May 17, 2024). Aurora Fire Rescue responded to the structure fire near the 2000 Block of S Ironton Circle around 8:05 pm with nine fire trucks. Crews arrived within five minutes and found the fire on the roof of the one-story home, where the solar panels were installed.
Firefighters secured utilities, and due to the possibility of the solar panels still being charged despite the power shutoff, they used dry chemical extinguishers designed for electric fires to control and contain the fire on the roof.
There were no reports of injuries, as initial reports indicated that no one was inside. This was confirmed by a search of the home, which revealed no people or pets inside. The home remains habitable, and the Red Cross was not requested by the homeowner. There are no further updates at this time.
As May is National Building Safety Month, functioning sprinkler systems, fire alarms, and other important building safety protections are essential to keeping structures safe for those who occupy and use them. Residents can also do their part by testing every smoke alarm in their homes monthly. Batteries should be replaced at least once a year, and smoke alarms should be replaced every 8-10 years.
