Warrant Issued for Teen Driver in March 30 Fatal Crash in Aurora
(April 10, 2024) – An arrest warrant has been issued for a Denver teenager identified as the driver of a stolen car that was involved in a fatal, single-vehicle crash late last month on Interstate 225.
Just before 7:30 a.m., on Saturday, March 30, 2024, a stolen 2016 Kia Sorrento with five teenagers was traveling northbound on I-225, just south of East 6th Avenue, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a rollover crash.
Four of the five occupants were taken to area hospitals with varying injuries. The fifth was evaluated by paramedics on scene and released to a guardian. One of the 15-year-old passengers died from injuries they sustained in the crash shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The Aurora Police Traffic Section is investigating and has determined speed was the most significant contributing factor to the crash. The usage of seatbelts, as well as alcohol and drugs, are still being investigated as other possible contributing factors.
An arrest warrant has been issued for the driver, identified as a 17-year-old, on charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and two counts of motor vehicle theft. The driver facing charges in this case is not being identified because he is a minor.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).
