(April 4, 2024) –The Aurora Police Department Crimes Against Children Unit is seeking additional information about a man recently arrested for sexual assault of two young children in their home.
With help from the Denver Police Department, Mohamad Arab Bin Shamsur-Alam, 37, was arrested March 27, 2024 on two counts of Sexual Assault of a Child, and two counts of Enticement of a Child. Additional counts against him are pending. Shamsur-Alam is currently in police custody and poses no immediate threat to the community.
In summer of 2023, Shamsur-Alam was working at a home as a repairman, when he lured two young girls into the bathroom and sexually assaulted them. Through the investigation, it was found that Shamsur-Alam had also assaulted the children at an earlier time while doing maintenance at the home.
Shamsur-Alam was previously arrested in 2019 for Indecent Exposure and Harassment after he exposed himself to one young girl and pulled down the pants of a young boy.
Shamsur-Alam speaks numerous languages including Burmese. There is concern he might have been targeting the Burmese community or other immigrant groups in Aurora.
Based on his escalating behavior, investigators believe there may be additional victims who have had contact with Shamsur-Alam. The Aurora Police Department is working with community leaders to get this information to the Burmese and immigrant communities.
