The Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit Investigates Fatal Shooting Saturday Night

(March 25, 2024) – The Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit (MCHU) is investigating a shooting from Saturday night that resulted in one fatality and another person injured.

Approximately 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a call of a shooting at a rental hall in the 2000 block of N. Tower Road. Officers arrived to a large party of people including juveniles and young adults. They found one individual suffering from a gunshot wound inside the building. That individual was a 19-year-old male who was transported to the hospital where he later passed away from his injuries.

Police found an additional victim, an adult male, with non-life-threatening injuries due to a gunshot wound. He has since been released from the hospital.

The investigation shows that the venue was rented out for a large party of people. An argument broke out between individuals who are known to each other. The argument escalated to a shooting. The two victims were shot during this time and people from the party made their way outside the venue to the parking lot. Additional shots were fired throughout the parking lot. There are no reports of additional shooting victims.

The Adams County Coroner's Office will identify the deceased individual.

With the large amount of people in attendance, we're asking anyone with information including photos or video evidence of the altercation, to submit a tip to APD Detective Raines at 303-739-6068.

The investigation is active and ongoing. The information contained in this release is preliminary and subject to change as additional details are obtained during the investigation.
