(March 19, 2024) – Three suspects face murder charges following an early Friday morning fatal shooting in central Aurora.
About 3 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2024, Aurora patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting at a condominium complex in the 14600 block of East Second Avenue. Once on scene, officers located a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers performed lifesaving actions, but the woman died at the scene from her injuries. She will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
Three suspects sped away from the scene in a moving truck. Officers were involved in a pursuit that ended near E470 and Pena Boulevard when the truck became stuck in the snow.
The three suspects ran but were quickly detained by patrol officers without further incident. One of the suspects, Cameron Mooty, 31, also sustained a gunshot wound during the incident. It’s unclear when Mooty was shot, but it was not during his contact with officers. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The two other suspects, Stephan Cherry, 32, and Corey Allen, 26, were initially held on outstanding felony warrants. They were booked into the Aurora Jail over the weekend on second-degree murder charges. Mooty also was booked on second-degree murder charges after he was released from the hospital.
Major Crime Homicide Unit detectives obtained a warrant to search the truck over the weekend and seized several firearms as evidence in the case.
