(Feb. 7, 2024) – The Aurora Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred Tuesday night in northwest Aurora.
Aurora patrol officers responded to the report of a crash about 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, on East 6th Avenue near Kenton Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they located a 28-year-old Aurora man suffering from life-threatening injuries.
The man was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The man will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
The preliminary investigation has revealed the man was walking south across 6th Avenue when he was struck by an eastbound silver Chevrolet pickup driven by a 63-year-old Aurora man. The pedestrian was not in the crosswalk when he was struck by the pickup.
The driver of the pickup remained at the scene and cooperated with the crash investigation. Investigators don’t think speed or intoxication were contributing factors to the crash.
The investigation closed 6th Avenue for less than two hours. The roadway reopened to normal traffic about 7:45 p.m.
The crash marks the second traffic-related death in 2024 in Aurora.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).
