Posted on 10/22/2023

(Oct. 22, 2023) – The Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit is investigating a homicide that occurred Sunday afternoon in the Southlands neighborhood.

About 12:45 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 24600 block of East Applewood Drive. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 38-year-old Aurora man with a single gunshot wound.

Officers performed lifesaving actions on the man until medical responders arrived at the scene. The man was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries. He will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office after notification of next of kin.

Witnesses told police the shooting stemmed from an argument between the man and his 19-year-old stepson, Mark Sisneros. Sisneros left the apartment after the shooting. He later returned and was arrested by Aurora patrol officers. Sisneros was subsequently booked into the Aurora jail on one charge of second-degree murder.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).
