Man Dies After Being Shot During Altercation

UPDATE: Arrest Made: Aurora Police Major Crimes Homicide Unit Investigating Fatal Shooting

(Sept. 2, 2023) – The Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit has arrested two Aurora men in connection with a fatal shooting last month in the Dayton Triangle neighborhood.

Donald Howard, 18, and Jordan Zachary Leday, 27, both face one charge of first-degree murder in the Aug. 27 shooting death of a 20-year-old in the 1500 block of South Galena Way.

Leday was arrested Wednesday on an outstanding warrant by Aurora police’s Fugitive Apprehension and Surveillance Team. Howard also was arrested Wednesday by the Regional Anti-Violence Enforcement Network as part of a Colorado Organized Crime Control Act investigation. Arrest warrants for the Galena Way homicide were issued Saturday.

(Aug. 28, 2023) – The Aurora Police Department Major Crimes Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday night in the 1500 block of S. Galena Way.


Approximately 6:20 p.m., officers responded to a call of a shooting at a residence. When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was immediately transferred to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Witness statements and evidence collected from the scene found the victim had been in an altercation with multiple people inside the home. After shots were fired, several unknown adult male suspects fled the scene.

The deceased individual will be identified by the Adam's County Coroner’s Office.

The Aurora Police Department Major Crimes Homicide Unit, along with the Crime Scene Unit and Victims Services Unit responded to the incident. This investigation is ongoing.
