Meera Alul
Hello! I’m Meera. I am Palestinian by blood, American by birth, and I spent most of my
childhood in Dubai, UAE. I have always loved creating art and exploring different
mediums, and as a Studio Arts major in college I experimented with as many materials
as I could get my hands on. As an artist today, I work with clay, charcoal, paint, pen/ink,
photography, and woodburning.
I am inspired by our natural world and in my first pottery class, I was completely
entranced by the spinning lump of earth that formed into itself between my hands.
Sitting on a wheel watching clay spin between my fingers is as close as I can ever get to
a clear mind and grounded body. I embellish a lot of my pottery by carving paths
through the clay. How I carve each piece comes from connecting with its energy; I begin
carving and end when it feels right. As I carve, I visualize mountains and rivers and
finally, things begin to quiet down.
