Posted on 07/06/2023

(July 6, 2023) – An Aurora man has been arrested following a fatal shooting Wednesday night involving two minors who were attempting to break into the man’s car.

Orest Schur, 27, was arrested on one charge each of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

The charges stem from 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, when residents in the 19400 block of East 59th Place heard a car alarm going off and observed two people dressed in all black attempting to break into a Hyundai Elantra. The vehicle owner, Schur, confronted the people.

The two people sped away in another suspected stolen vehicle. Schur, who was armed, got into his Hyundai and followed the other vehicle until it crashed a short distance away in the 19500 block of East 58th Circle. During the incident, Schur fired several shots at the people he suspected of trying to break into his car, striking both.

One of those people was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital where he died of his wounds. The deceased has not yet been positively identified but is believed to be a teenaged boy.

The second wounded person ran to a nearby relative’s house and then self-transported to a local hospital. That person, a 13-year-old boy, is expected to survive.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).
