2nd alarm fire in apartment complex sends 3 to the hospital and displaces dozens of units.
At approximately 5:00 pm this evening, Aurora Fire Rescue crews responded to multiple reports of an active fire in one of the buildings at the Park Place at Expo apartments. AFR crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire conditions as well as fire extension from the 2nd floor up to the 3rd floor.
A 2nd alarm requesting more resources to address the incident was quickly struck while crews worked to get the fire under control and evacuate any occupants. AFR crews attacked the fire with hose lines on both upper floors of the building, moving quickly to contain the fire to just a few apartments and the shared hallways of the building. While some crews worked to mitigate the fire other crews addressed several injured parties on scene. A total of 5 patients were treated by AFR and Falck personnel as a result of the incident. 1 patient was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, while 2 others were also taken to local hospitals with non life threatening injuries. The last 2 patients were treated and released on scene.
Crews completed primary and secondary searches of the structure and found no down parties within. Initial reports from the scene are that the occupants of approximately 60 units in the building may be displaced for an undisclosed amount of time as a result of damage in the structure. The investigation of this fire is under way at this time.
