(May 29, 2023) - The Aurora Police Department's Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating a fatal crash that happened Sunday night in northeast Aurora.
Officers responded to calls of a single-vehicle rollover crash at 9:08 p.m. Sunday, May 28, on North Powhaton Road just north of East 6th Avenue. The initial investigation revealed a 2022 Toyota Tacoma was driving northbound on Powhaton Road. The Tacoma, for reasons unknown, ran off the left side of the roadway, causing the truck to roll multiple times. The driver, a 22-year-old Denver man, and only occupant, was ejected from the vehicle and tragically died on scene.
The driver's name, as well as the official cause and manner of death, will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's office.
Powhaton was closed for roughly four hours last night. Traffic Investigators will now be responsible for reconstructing the scene and examining physical evidence to determine the cause of the crash and any contributing factors.
