Accreditation

Accreditation Logo

Aurora Fire Rescue was first awarded the Accredited Agency status in 2000, earning reaccreditation in 2005, 2010, and again in 2015. This is a great accomplishment for the city's fire personnel.

Having this status demonstrates to our residents and businesses the value we place on the safety of their lives and property. This process shows the commitment of the department and the city to provide the highest quality of service to our community. We have been able to use the Commission on Fire Accreditation International's process as a proactive mechanism to plan for the future of the department.

The process helped us to focus on the future and to develop a strategic plan that will be used as a blueprint for the future of our department. This plan was built with cooperation from the members and leadership of our local firefighters union, IAFF #1290. Information attained from other city of Aurora departments also contributed to our success.

In addition to identifying those areas where the department needs to concentrate on improvements, the process also identified where we were doing very well, including:

  • Private/public patient transport contract

  • Low cost per capita and low fire loss per capita

  • Officer development program

  • Health and safety record

  • Hazardous materials team

  • Advanced life support program
