Dog with Donations

DONATIONS

The Aurora Animal Shelter relies on the generosity of our donors to keep our animals healthy, happy and entertained during their stay with us. The shelter accepts both monetary and in-kind donations. Monetary donations go towards medical care, behavioral rehabilitation as well as supplies to provide the best level of care and comfort to our animals. In addition, cash donations can be used to support cruelty prevention and education programs.

We recommend consulting with your financial advisor if you intend to use your donation as a tax deduction.

On behalf of the animals who cannot speak for themselves, we thank you for your generous gift!

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2020 MOST IN NEED ITEMS

Cats Rescued

Aurora Animal Services recently rescued several cats from a hoarding situation. Most of the cats tested positive for ringworm, which is a fungal skin infection. The Aurora Animal Shelter is in the process of treating these cats, however, treating ringworm is a lengthy process and could take several weeks. As a result, the shelter is looking for cat enrichment items to help make their length of stay more enjoyable. If you are interested in helping, the shelter is currently in need of the following donations:

  • Assorted cat toys (any and all kinds)
  • Wand toys
  • Treat/food dispensing toys
  • Cat treats
  • Wet cat food
  • Soft cat brushes
  • Feliway
  • Extra-small Kongs
  • Cat nip
  • Small blankets
  • Small beds
  • Small scratching pads (hangable ones preferably)
Donations can be left at the front door of the Aurora Animal Shelter at 15750 E. 32nd Ave., Aurora CO 80011. If you require a donation receipt upon drop off or have any questions, please contact the shelter at 303.326.8280. As always, the shelter greatly appreciates your generosity and so do the cats!

Once the cats have been medically cleared they will be placed up for adoption.

HOME PROJECTS

Want to add your personal touch to items being donated? The Aurora Animal Shelter welcomes homemade crafts to help enrich the lives of their animals. Listed below are projects that the shelter could benefit from. However, due to limited storage space at the shelter, we ask that you call in advance before gathering supplies to see what projects the shelter could currently benefit from. Please call our Community Outreach Coordinator at 303.326.8390 to discuss projects.

These projects are not only great for the animals at the shelter, but for animals in your own home.

Snuffle Mats - Shelter staff hide treats in the fabric of the mats for the dogs to find. Watch the following video from Girl Scout Troop 60846 to learn how to make one.

Cat Blankets - Our felines love to knead the soft fabric of these blankets before taking a nap. Not only are these blankets purr-fect for cats, but our smaller dogs love to snuggle in these as well! Instructions can be found in the below video. 21" x 21" are generally the best size to fit in our kennels.

Flirt Pole - These flirt poles are a great recreational tool for dogs to burn off some energy! Watch the video below for more information.

Cat Cover - These covers are a great way to give felines some privacy in their kennels.

Bow Ties - Not only are these adorable for pets to wear, but adds a nice touch to their profile photos. Bow ties can be plain, have a cute pattern or have festive designs for different holidays.

Kitten inside of a Kitten bagKitten Socialization Bag - This a project for someone that has sewing experience. These bags are extremely vital to the shelter and help both staff and foster parents with unsocial/feral kittens. The following instructions were provided graciously by the Foothills Animal Shelter; Kitten Socialization Bag.
