Contact: Jana Krell, Public Works, 303.739.7640
Start Date: August 2018
Estimated End Date: Spring 2019

The Jewell Avenue and Genoa Street Intersection Improvements project is widening Jewell Avenue east of the intersection for 1,700 linear feet. The widening occurs to the south portion of the roadway. Once complete, the roadway have three westbound lanes, a westbound to southbound left turn lane, and three eastbound lanes.

Other components of this project include reconstructing the entrance into the Great Plains Park, along with some drainage channel work adjacent to the roadway.

The Jewell Avenue improvements are being constructed for several reasons. The current tapers that are provided do not meet current criteria and this project brings the intersection up to modern standards. The project also improves access for cars entering and exiting the driveway to Great Plains Park, and improves and updates the existing drainage channel to the south side of Jewell Avenue.

The city of Aurora Public Works Transportation Project Delivery Team is leading the project.

Traffic impact hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, but may be extended for special circumstances. While Jewell Avenue will remain open to traffic during construction, alternate routes are advised.

Update: Nov. 8, 2018
This project is being delayed to allow Xcel Energy to move an electrical line that is in conflict with the project. Xcel's construction work is expected to be complete by the end of the year, after which the city's road work will resume, weather permitting. The city's contractor will install temporary striping prior to Xcel's construction work to ensure appropriate flow of traffic until the city's work resumes.
