About Community Spirit Awards

The city of Aurora recognizes and celebrates community volunteers for helping make Aurora a great place to call home. The Community Spirit Awards are presented annually to individuals, organizations, and businesses who demonstrate ongoing leadership, a commitment to volunteerism and involvement in our community.

Nominations categories:
  • City of Aurora Programs Volunteer: This award recognizes an individual who volunteers for the city and whose efforts directly impact city municipal operations, programs and events.

  • City of Aurora Programs Youth Volunteer: This award recognizes an individual, 18 years or younger, who volunteers for the city and whose efforts directly impact city municipal operations, programs and events.

  • Community Volunteer: This award recognizes an individual who volunteers for a nonprofit organization located in or has a presence in the Aurora community.

  • Youth Community Volunteer: This award recognizes an individual, 18 years or younger, who volunteers for a nonprofit organization located in or has a presence in the Aurora community.

  • Community Nonprofit Organization: This award recognizes nonprofit organizations that manage an exceptional volunteer program whose efforts have made a significant impact within the community. 

  • Service Member Veteran Volunteer: This award recognizes uniformed service individuals who have contributed to the Aurora veteran community. Nominees must be on active duty, a drilling guardsman or reservist, a veteran or a family member (spouse, child, parent) of such individuals who have served/are serving in a uniformed service.

  • Community Business Partner: This award is given to a local business that has demonstrated excellence in partnering with a nonprofit in Aurora to better serve the needs of the community.

  • City of Aurora Employee Volunteer: This award recognizes and celebrates a city employee who has positively impacted the community through leadership and volunteer work.

Award recipients are chosen by the Aurora Volunteer Committee, which is made up of city of Aurora employees, based on community service impact not on the number of nominations submitted for that individual or organization. More than one individual/organization can be recognized in each category.

Awardees are recognized at ceremony.
