Recovered Property

The Aurora Police Department Property & Evidence Unit is charged with the critical task of storing all of the evidence collected by officers, detectives and crime scene investigators in the city of Aurora. They also keep personal property and found property turned in by officers for safekeeping.

The Property Unit is located in the Aurora Police Department Headquarters building at
15001 E. Alameda Parkway (between South Chambers Road and South Sable Boulevard on East Alameda Parkway). Parking is on the south side of the Municipal Justice Center, east of the Central Library. From the parking lot, walk north and follow signs to the Police Department. Go to the lobby desk to check in.

Hours of operation are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Closed:  Wednesdays, weekends and city holidays.

Because it may take some time to locate and retrieve property you MUST call ahead at 303.739.6284 to make an appointment.

Property can only be released to a person named in the case file, or the owner as specified in the police report. A notarized letter from the owner indicating a specific person to pick up the property will also be accepted, or a court order releasing the property can also be presented.
  • A U.S. government issued photo identification card is required for all transactions.
  • To speed up the process of locating and identifying property, please have the case number available.
The release of evidence is determined by Colorado state law and other conditions as imposed by the courts or District Attorney’s office. The court that the case is being or could be held in would be the best place to contact in regards to whether or not evidence can be released.
