Global Teen Police Academy

Interested in law enforcement? Enroll in APD's Global Teen Police Academy and learn more about the daily functions of the Aurora Police Department and what police officers do. The Global Teen Police Academy (GTPA) is open to students, 14 - 17 years old.

Classes are held over a two-week period, with both morning and afternoon classes available. The classes take place at various locations across Aurora.

What is GTPA?

The Global Teen Police Academy is a free, two-week program designed to provide youth with a hands-on understanding of the Aurora Police Department. Participants attend daily interactive classes taught by the department’s School Resource Officers and members of specialty units. While there is no cost to join, all participants are required to undergo a background check.

When is GTPA?

The 2025 Global Teen Police Academy will be held in June and July, each with morning (8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.) or afternoon (1 - 5:30 p.m.) classes.  

  • June 9 - 20 (graduation on June 21)
  • July 14 - 25 (graduation on July 26)

Who can participate in GTPA?

Youth interested in applying for the Global Teen Police Academy must be between 14 and 17 years old. Applicants from all metro-area cities are welcome, though priority is given to those residing in Aurora. While a valid driver’s license or learner’s permit is encouraged, it is not required. Returning participants will be placed on a waiting list. 

What is taught at GTPA?

Youth will gain a working knowledge of the duties and responsibilities required to be a law enforcement officer in Aurora. Classes included:

  • 911 Communications
  • Advanced Drivers Training
  • Crime Prevention & Internet Safety
  • Investigations & Gang Awareness
  • K9 & SWAT
  • Obstacle Course
  • Personal Safety
  • Traffic & Criminal Law
  • Vice & Narcotics

Applications will be available February 3, 2025 and will remain available until all classes have been filled.
