Aurora Fire Rescue learned today that Aurora has earned the highest possible Public Protection Classification (PPC), Level 1, up from the previous level 2 designation.
Aurora recently participated in a PPC survey which is an analysis of the structural fire suppression delivery system provided to our community.
The survey takes into consideration a variety of factors including 911 call processing and response time, the prevalence and reliability of fire suppression water supply, as well as the number of fire companies and apparatus in our city.
"Aurora Fire Rescue has the most honorable and committed people in the world; however, this rating would also not be possible without the support of our elected officials and City Manager's Office," said Fire Chief Fernando Gray Sr. "Additionally, while the assessment is based on fire suppression capabilities, we also commend the other city departments who assist Aurora Fire Rescue in meeting our mission. This includes Aurora Water and Public Safety Communications. They are to be applauded for their dedication to making this a safe place to visit or call home."
The new designation takes effect on September 1, 2020. Due to the enhanced property safety measures our city provides, many residents and business owners will see a price benefit on insurance premiums upon their next insurance renewal dates. As we continue to grow as a city, we must continue to grow our fire suppression systems along with it to maintain the benefits of an excellent PPC rating for those who live and work here. Aurora Fire Rescue is committed to providing excellent emergency response in our city.
