Two brush fires this afternoon were kept to less than an acre each near the intersection of I-70 and Pena Blvd.
Firefighters from Aurora Fire Rescue joined the Denver Fire Department to attack the brush fires, one occurred on the east side of the intersection and one occurred on the west side. Initial calls came in through Aurora 911 around 1:45 p.m. The fires did not threaten any buildings in the area and no injuries occurred.
A number of Aurora Fire Rescue’s engine companies, brush trucks, battalion chiefs and a water tender all responded to the scene. The cause of these fires is unknown, fire investigators have responded to the scene to conduct their work. While the fires did not take long to contain, firefighters remained nearby to ensure that any remaining hot spots were cooled.
Community members are asked to avoid activities that can cause a spark outdoors and to always monitor local media for fire danger weather forecasts.
