AFR News Release

On March 13th, Aurora Fire Rescue (AFR) announced the promotion of two members to the position of Battalion Chief. The need arose due to the addition of a fourth battalion in the department structure.

Steady growth in the City of Aurora continues to necessitate corresponding growth by AFR through personnel, facilities, and apparatus. In turn, AFR recently recognized the need for an additional battalion chief position. In September of 2019, Fire Chief Fernando M. Gray, Sr. announced a key benefit that a fourth battalion would offer – reducing the average number of members within each emergency operations battalion chief’s responsibility from 41 to 31.

Battalion Chief 4 will operate out of Station 13 in the Tallyn’s Reach area of southeast Aurora.

Both of the newly promoted battalion chiefs began functioning in their new roles in mid-March.

  • Dave Campbell was promoted to Battalion Chief and assigned to Battalion 3 on B-shift.
  • Robert Ott was promoted to Battalion Chief and assigned to Battalion 1 on C-shift.

Aurora Fire Chief Fernando M. Gray, Sr. congratulated the members and stated, “We have every confidence that these individuals will make a positive impact in their new roles and assist the department in achieving our stated goals.”
