Pursuant to the Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Directive 06-03, each court is required to provide, at judiciary expense, an interpreter in a Court Proceeding (any hearing, trial or other appearance before any Colorado state court in an action, appeal, or other proceeding, including any matter conducted by a judicial officer) for a party who speaks only or primarily a language other than English. Additionally, each court is required to provide, at judiciary expense, sign language interpreters, or other appropriate auxiliary aids, to participants in court proceedings who are deaf, hearing-impaired, or have other communication disabilities.
How do I request an interpreter for a court appearance at Aurora Municipal Court?
If you speak limited or no English and are a party or interested person to a case (litigant, defendant, witness, parent, or legal custodian of a juvenile), you shall submit a request for an interpreter at least 14 (fourteen) days in advance of the court proceeding and your request will be sent to a Judge for consideration. Following the Judge’s ruling, you will be contacted regarding your request.
The Case Management Division of the Aurora Municipal Court oversees interpreter services. Special requests for Spanish interpreters are not needed. Aurora Municipal Court has Spanish interpreters available on a daily basis. All other language interpreters need to be requested. To submit a request, please email [email protected]. Please include the name of the person requesting an interpreter, a telephone number, email address, language needed, country of origin, date and time of the court proceeding, case number and additional information, if beneficial.
