COVID-19 Update

Due to the public health precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, effective February 7, 2022, the Aurora Municipal Court will conduct operations with the following requirements and restrictions:

  1. Face Mask or Covering: Pursuant to the current Tri-County Health Orders and Directives, face masks or coverings are optional for patrons and courthouse staff who have been vaccinated and strongly encouraged for patrons and courthouse staff who have not been vaccinated. However, although face masks or coverings are not mandatory, the Aurora Municipal Court continues to encourage all patrons and courthouse staff to follow State of Colorado face mask guidance for their own safety and the safety of others when entering the Municipal Court building and until exit from the courthouse.
  2. Restricted Court Access: At this time, the Court Orders restricted building access. Only the following persons are allowed:
    1. Person(s) that have been scheduled or docketed as in-person appearance;
    2. Attorneys;
    3. Person(s) making a payment;
    4. Person(s) with a warrant;
    5. Person(s) who have missed a court date and need to appear to clear a warrant or default judgment and reschedule the court case;
    6. Person(s) who will testify in cases for in-person appearance;
    7. Any Aurora Animal Services Department employee needing to contact the City Attorney or Case Management;
    8. Any Aurora Code Enforcement Department employee needing to contact the City Attorney or Case Management;
    9. Interpreters;
    10. Person(s) with an appointment with City Attorney, Public Defender or Probation
    11. Any delivery person making a delivery to any Court Department must call the appropriate Department at the courthouse entrance
    12. Anyone with an appointment with any Court Department must call the appropriate department from the phone at the courthouse entrance and wait to be allowed to enter the courthouse.

  3. If you are ill or have any flu like symptoms, DO NOT COME TO COURT. You should NOT come to Court if:
    1. You have been diagnosed with COVID-19 (“Novel Coronavirus) and you have not received a subsequent test confirming that you are currently virus free;
    2. You have been in direct contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 within the past fourteen (14) days;
    3. You are experiencing a fever, cough, shortness of breath, or any other respiratory illness symptoms.
    4. You have recently traveled to a high-risk area.

If any of the above apply, please call the Court at 303-739-6458 to reschedule your case. (Except for an arraignment, please note Case Management requires a Judge’s Order on all cases to reschedule).

The Aurora Municipal Court is allowing persons to appear “virtually” or by video conferencing for certain cases. To determine if your case is eligible for video conferencing, please contact the Aurora Municipal Court at [email protected] or by TEXT at 720-704-0100.

This Order shall remain in effect until vacated.

EFFECTIVE NOV. 30, 2020, AND UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, if you are scheduled to appear in the Aurora Municipal Court for a criminal or traffic case, please contact your attorney or the Court in advance of your court date to confirm your virtual appearance. If you do not have an attorney, please appear via virtual court on your scheduled court date by following the instructions below for your assigned courtroom.

Failure to appear may result in the issuance of a warrant for your arrest. Therefore, it is imperative that you make arrangements to ensure that you and/or your attorney attend virtual court.

If you do not have the electronic ability to appear by WebEx, please submit a written request to [email protected] requesting your case be scheduled for an in-person appearance.  You may also mail your request to or use the secure drop box at Aurora Municipal Court, 14999 E. Alameda Parkway, Aurora, CO  80012. Your request will be submitted to a Judge for consideration and you will be notified of the Judge’s ruling with seventy-two (72) hours of your inquiry.

The Municipal Court function is composed of the Court Administration Department, Judicial Department, the City Attorney's Criminal Justice Division and the Public Defender's Office. The Court Administration Department oversees the administrative services of the Municipal Court function. The Judicial Department presides over the municipal courts. The City Attorney's Criminal Justice Division is responsible for the prosecution of violations of municipal ordinances and regulations. The primary function of the Public Defender's Office is to represent indigent defendants of the city of Aurora.

The Municipal Court handles a wide variety of offense violations, but not all tickets that are written in the city of Aurora are written into the Aurora Municipal Court. The Aurora Detention Center is a 72-hour Adult Holding Facility and has a maximum capacity of 220 detainees. The Detention Staff works closely with the Aurora Police Department, the Aurora City Marshals, the Arapahoe and Adams County Detention Facility, as well as other jurisdictions, to house and transport detainees in preparation for their court appearances.

Where can I get my fingerprints done?

If you have been ordered by the court to have your fingerprints taken, you may go to the Aurora Detention Center, 14999 E. Alameda Parkway:

  • Sunday from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m., Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m.
  • No appointment is necessary.

If you need fingerprinting done for a job or other non-court purpose, go to ColoradoFingerprinting.com and follow the instructions to set up an appointment.
