Water Valve Identification

NOTE: Before turning your valves on various pieces of equipment, spray a small amount of penetrating oil, such as WD-40, on the valves. This is especially helpful with gate and ball valves.

Backflow irrigation device
A device that prevents the flow of fluid in the reverse direction that it is coming from. Without a backflow device installed, non-potable water can mix in with your clean water. Backflow preventers protect our drinking water, save lives and prevent illness.

Isolation valves stop the flow of liquid for maintenance or safety purposes. They can also be used to select one flow path versus another and to connect external equipment to a system.

Basement valve configuration
(Most common area is near the front wall) 
Domestic Shut Off: A valve that will isolate your water supply into your home but you will still have water going to your irrigation system.

Irrigation Valve: A valve that will isolate your irrigation system but you will still have water to the inside of your home.

Pressure Reducing Valve: A valve with a horizontal disk for automatically reducing water pressure in a water main to a preset valve.

Main water on/off valve: A valve that will stop water from coming into the home.​
