(Jan. 11, 2025) – The Aurora Police Department Major Crimes Homicide Unit has arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday evening in north Aurora.
At approximately 6:52 p.m. on Jan. 9, Aurora police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 20000 block of East 62nd Drive. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but tragically died shortly thereafter.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had stepped outside his residence and observed a suspicious red sedan. An unknown individual fired multiple rounds at the victim before leaving the scene in the red sedan. Officers also discovered damaged pieces of the red sedan at the crime scene.
During the investigation, the Major Crimes Homicide Unit, with the assistance of the Aurora Police Department's Gang Unit, identified the vehicle involved in the homicide. Detectives confirmed the car had damage matching the pieces recovered from the scene.
On Jan. 10, APD's Gang Unit located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. A 15-year-old male suspect was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant. Detectives interviewed the male and arrested him for this homicide.
The 15-year-old suspect was booked into jail for first degree murder.
The investigation remains active and ongoing to determine if anyone else was involved in this homicide. While the suspect and victim did not personally know each other, it is believed that the suspect knew the victim's family.
