Weekly Programs


Morning at the Museum
Every Wednesday, 10:30 - 11:15 a.m.

Spend the morning with your preschooler at the Aurora History Museum for stories, crafts and hands-on activities. A new program is offered every week. Please note, children must be supervised by an adult.
Free, no registration required.

Delaney Historic District Open Day
Saturday, Dec. 7, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Come see what farm life in Aurora was like in the late 19th-early 20th century. We will be giving tours of Gully House (the oldest surviving home in Aurora) and the DeLaney Round Barn. Enjoy tea, hot cocoa, cookies, and crafts. Free and fun for all ages!

December Homeschool Day: Aurora Celebrates!
Monday, Dec. 9, 9:30 a.m.

How do you celebrate? Aurora is the most diverse city in Colorado with over 150 languages spoken. For the third time, we have invited some of our neighbors to come show us how they celebrate. Join us for a morning full of cultural understanding and celebratory fun!
Homeschool Day: $7 per participating child

Centennial House Open Day
Saturday, Dec. 14, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Come see a Queen Anne Style house built back when Aurora was Fletcher. We will have hot tea and tours of the historic house. Historic Preservationist, Chris Geddes, will be leading walking tours of historic architecture on Galena St.

“The Bishop’s Wife” Live Radio Play
Saturday, Dec. 14, 5:30 p.m.

Professional actors portray all the roles and produce all the live sound and music in this supernatural romantic comedy for the holidays. A bishop seeks help from a higher power, and his prayers are answered by what some might call an angel. The bishop does not see it that way; even the most heavenly creature can be tempted. 
Radio Play tickets: $3 per person.

Holiday Tea Party 
Saturday, Dec 14, 4:30 p.m., show begins at 5:30 p.m.

Join us before “The Bishop’s Wife” Live Radio show for a holiday tea party with traditional afternoon tea and all the fixings provided by Babe’s Tea Shop. Tea includes finger sandwiches, cookies, petit fours, scones with condiments and choice of tea. Tickets to “The Bishops Wife” are included in the cost.
Tea Tickets: $42, Children $30.

The Local Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Saturday, Jan. 11, 4 p.m.

Learn about Dr. King’s visits to the Denver area and engage with a panel of historians, scholars and important members of Aurora’s community. Join us to explore the complex legacy of this national figure whose words and work changed the city we live in and still resonate with Americans today.

January Homeschool Day: Nepal  
Monday, Jan. 13, 9:30 a.m.

You may have seen our Mosaic of Culture: Aurora’s Nepali Community exhibit, but how much do you really know about Nepal? Learn more about Nepal, Nepali Culture and Aurora’s Nepali community while doing crafts, playing games and talking to Aurora residents from Nepal.

Aurora Speaks Reading
Wednesday, Jan. 15, 6 p.m.

Join us to celebrate and explore the diverse voices and Aurora places showcased in our Aurora Speaks exhibition. This project by Ahja Fox, Aurora’s Poet Laureate collects writing about what Aurora truly means to its people to be featured online and in the gallery. Authors will read their works and offer insight into their own Aurora story.

“America’s Hidden Gem: NW Aurora” Screening 
Friday, Jan. 24, 6 p.m.

“America's Hidden Gem: Northwest Aurora" is an engaging new documentary that celebrates NW Aurora’s cultures, foods, arts, history and people while exploring the challenges that they are facing and overcoming. Shown through the eyes of community members, “Hidden Gem” is the story of a community making good on the promise of the American dream.

February Homeschool Day: Nature in Aurora
Thursday, Feb. 6, 9:30 a.m.

What do you know about the plants and animals of Aurora? Want to learn more about what you can see in your own backyard? We are working with Aurora’s Parks, Recreation and Open Space naturalists for this fun, hands-on exploration of nature in Aurora.

Gee’s Bend and Black History Live with Harriet Tubman
Friday Feb. 7, 7:30 p.m.

Join us for a very special evening of theater and history at the Aurora Fox Theater.  A performance of Gee’s Bend, a story of survival, community and quilts, directed by award winning director, donnie l. betts  will be followed by an immersive talk by American hero, Harriet Tubman, portrayed by nationally renowned travelling scholar and performer, Becky Stone. This program is a partnership between the museum and the Fox theater, and as part of Colorado Humanities Black History Live tour.

Power Couples Presentation
Feb. 13, 1 p.m.

This presentation highlights several local power couples, including the Mosleys, Prestons and Cowans. Learn more about who these impressive Aurorans were as individuals, and what they accomplished as couples. After the presentation, try some local chocolates. A perfect way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

When Was It? Every Wednesday we post #WhenWasItWednesday with an object or photograph from our collection to social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter). You’ll need to guess the year based on what you see (car models, stores, fashion, hair styles and trends). Here's the catch: we don't have dates for every object or photograph in our collection; we are counting on you to help us narrow down the time frame! @AuroraHistoryCO on all platforms.

Geocaches

Find geocaches located at Aurora Landmarks No. 5, No. 9, No. 11 and No. 26 using Geocaching.com. After you find the cache, visit the Aurora History Museum during regular business hours and receive a limited edition coin for each geocache you find. We showcase a different historic landmark every year, so start your collection today!
Coins are limited and are available on a first come, first serve basis. You do not need to pick up the coin on the same day you find the cache.
