Aurora Public Library holds grand opening of Chambers Plaza Library Jan. 12 followed by community celebration Jan. 13-14
In partnership with the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Aurora Public Library is hosting the grand opening of its newest branch, Chambers Plaza Library, 1551 N. Chambers Road, at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, followed by a community celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, and Saturday, Jan. 14.
The community weekend that will follow the grand opening will include special programs hosted by staff of Chambers Plaza Library on Friday, performances on Saturday, as well as food and activities for all ages to enjoy on both days. Chambers Plaza Library brings the city’s library branches back to seven full-service libraries since closures in 2009. The grand opening and community weekend will showcase the library’s services to the community and surrounding neighborhoods.
“Chambers Plaza Library provides a safe learning space for students, parents and community members,” said Midori Clark, director of Library and Cultural Services. “This seventh library branch contributes to our purpose of improving lives with learning opportunities for the Aurora community; this branch will make library services accessible to neighboring schools, as well as the culturally diverse communities in this northeast side of the city.”
Aurora Public Library checked out more than 1.3 million items last year and has more than 270,000 library cardholders - equivalent to 70% of the entire city population. The library is also known for innovative programs such as the award-winning Aurora Scholars program, Aurora Brew Tour, art exhibitions, as well as STEAM and early literacy programs for children, DIY classes for adults, teen clubs and much more, all free.
Chambers Plaza Library is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, visit AuroraLibrary.org.
