Girl Scouts Bryn and Noelle with Little Free LibraryTwo local Girl Scouts, in partnership with Aurora Public Library and city of Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space, celebrated Colorado Day with the installation of the city’s newest Little Free Library.

Bryn and Noelle of Girl Scouts Troop 4526 installed a new Little Free Library at Triple Creek Trailhead on Aug. 1. The scouts started their Little Free Library project in summer 2019 as they began their journey to receiving the Silver Award for Girl Scouts. The Silver Award is the second-highest award of the Girl Scouts and the highest award that a Cadette (grades 6 – 8) can earn. This award is earned through the development of a project that includes community involvement and allows the scouts to develop skills in service, leadership and project management.

Bryn and Noelle chose to support their community through the creation of a new Little Free Library, and have spent the past year communicating with multiple Aurora Public Library and the city of Aurora’s Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS), researching locations for placement, constructing their own Little Free Library and planning for sustaining their contribution to the community.

Finding a common purpose in their dedication to community and literacy, Aurora Public Library and the PROS team have worked to expand our network of Little Free Libraries.  Collaboratively, they have thus far worked with four scouting groups to achieve their Silver and Gold Awards (Girl Scouts) and Eagle Scout rank (Boy Scouts).  In addition, Aurora Public Library currently maintains 12 Little Free Libraries throughout Aurora

Little Free Library is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to increasing access to books and building community through books. Through a global network of small, sheltered boxes containing a collection of books, individuals are encouraged to “Take a Book. Share a Book.”  More than 100,000 Little Free Libraries can be found in over 100 countries.

Please join Aurora Public Library in congratulating Cadettes Bryn and Noelle of Troop 4526 on their achievement and thanking them for their service to the community!
