The city of Aurora is thrilled to announce that it will celebrate the legacy of musical icon Selena as part of this year’s Global Fest.

Widely regarded as the Queen of Tejano Music, the life of Selena Quintanilla-Perez was tragically cut short 30 years ago on March 31. She was just a few weeks shy of what would have been her 24th birthday on April 16, 1995. The impact she made continues to resonate with fans around the world more than three decades later.

Performer Mayra Alejandra will bring her tribute to Selena to the Aurora Municipal Center’s Great Lawn on Saturday, June 14, as part of Global Fest 2025.

Alejandra, an Aurora resident, considers it an honor and privilege to pay tribute to her favorite artist. “I enjoy it so much, it brings joy to people and that’s why I do it; I’m here to serve,” Alejandra said of her tribute performance.

The city, in collaboration with Amigos de Mexico, will also be hosting a Selena look-alike contest ahead of that musical performance. There will be multiple age categories and prizes for top finishers. The competition will be judged by a group of notable members of Aurora's Hispanic/Latino community. All who love Selena are encouraged to participate.

Now in its 12th year, Global Fest is Aurora’s signature event. This unique, multicultural event is dedicated to celebrating the diversity of a city in which roughly one in five people are foreign-born.

The family friendly, one-day event includes two stages of vibrant musical, dance and other performances, a variety of local food trucks, an international marketplace, the popular Parade of Nations, a Fashion Show, art displays, creative activities for children and much more.

This year, the main stage program will include a diverse cast of artists, dancers and performers representing five continents, including a taekwondo demonstration from Aurora's own U.S. Taekwondo Center. The full program schedule will be announced in June.

Global Fest will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 14, on the Aurora Municipal Center’s Great Lawn, 15151 E. Alameda Parkway. This year's event is sponsored by Colorado Access, Donor Alliance, Alpine Bank, LTC, UC Health, Embassy of Nepal and CBS Colorado.
