Aurora Public Library launches Radiating Possibilities: Strategic and Facilities Master Plan

Today, Aurora Public Library is launching its Strategic and Facilities Master Plan, a comprehensive initiative designed to shape the future of the library. The theme of the plan, Radiating Possibilities, reflects the library’s commitment to expanding access to resources, fostering lifelong learning and serving as a vibrant hub for the community.
The official kickoff took place with a key stakeholders meeting, including city leadership, elected officials and community members, where the plan structure was presented, as well as the current state of the library including data such as library usage and library budget. In 2024, Aurora Public Library was used 3.4 million times, which includes 1.1 million item checkouts and 560,000 visits. The library’s annual budget is $8 million; by per capita expenditure, Aurora Public Library ranks 104th out of the 107 public libraries in Colorado. The data highlights the importance of the plan to identify needs, both community and facilities, so the allocation of resources is strategically maximized.
“We are at a pivotal moment in the history of Aurora Public Library and this strategic plan, with a strong emphasis on community participation, plays a very important role,” said Ginger White Brunetti, director of the city’s Library and Cultural Services Department. “Radiating Possibilities aims to capture our vision for the library’s future — a future where we continue to evolve in ways that empower and inspire our Aurora community. We are excited to begin this process and look forward to working with residents to create a library that reflects their values and aspirations.”
A key part of the master planning process is the community needs assessment, which will gather feedback from residents, engage with key stakeholders and bring library leaders together to set a strategic direction. Community participation is critical, and the library encourages all residents, active users and non-users, to contribute their input by completing the community survey, available at EngageAurora.org/LibraryVision. The survey will help the library understand the priorities and expectations of residents, ensuring the plan reflects the community’s vision.
As part of Radiating Possibilities: Strategic and Facilities Master Plan, the library will assess the condition and usage of its existing facilities, identify necessary capital improvements and plan for future space requirements. The plan also involves a thorough evaluation of the library’s current and future needs, including its facilities, services and overall community impact, and will provide a roadmap that ensures that the library’s vision, values and goals align with the needs of Aurora’s growing and diverse population.
The community survey can be accessed at EngageAuroragov.org/LibraryVision from Feb. 26 to April 4.
