(Sept. 23, 2024) – The Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit announced Monday it has made one arrest in connection with Friday’s fatal shooting near East Colfax Avenue and Helena Street.

Davonte McCoy Bletson, 20, of Denver, was arrested Sunday afternoon in Denver by Aurora’s fugitive unit with the assistance of the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force and the Denver Metro SWAT Team. Bletson was arrested on one charge of second-degree murder and is being held on $500,000 bond at the Arapahoe County Jail.

The victim, a 38-year-old Aurora man, is a native of Venezuela. The victim is not a resident of nearby Whispering Pines apartments, nor is he a resident of any of the other Aurora properties that have received significant media attention in recent weeks.

The victim’s identity, as well as an official cause and manner of death, will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Victims can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

Aurora Police Major Crime Unit Investigating Colfax and Helena Homicide

(Sept. 21, 2024) – The Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Friday night in the parking lot of a north Aurora business.

About 8:45 p.m. Friday, Aurora police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 15500 block of East Colfax Avenue. The preliminary investigation suggests two men traveled to a local liquor store and were involved in an argument with two other unknown men and an unknown woman in the parking lot. The argument escalated to a physical fight, followed by shots fired.

The victim, a 38-year-old man, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a local hospital, where they later died. An official cause and manner of death, as well as the victim’s identity, will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

Witnesses told police the three suspects sped from the scene in a silver sedan following the shooting. Suspect information is not known at this time and no arrests have been made.
