(Aug. 13, 2024) – The Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit has made an arrest in connection with a homicide that occurred last month at a park in the 1400 block of South Uravan Street.
Homicide detectives arrested on Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, a 17-year-old Denver girl. The suspect, who is not being identified because she is a minor, was in custody in another jurisdiction on an unrelated case when she was contacted last week by investigators.
The suspect was arrested on one charge of first-degree murder, 10 counts each of attempted first-degree murder and attempted first-degree assault, and one count each of felony menacing, illegal discharge of a firearm, tampering with physical evidence and unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor. Formal charges will be filed by the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
The arrest stems from July 6, 2024, when about 9:15 p.m. Aurora police officers responded to a report of a shooting at a park in the 1400 block of South Uravan Street. Numerous minors attended a party at the park when there was a fight followed by shots fired.
Three victims were taken to local hospitals with varying injuries, including two 14-year-old girls and one 15-year-old girl. One of the 14-year-old girls died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
No other suspects are believed to be outstanding at this time; however investigators continue to follow up on leads and information in the case. The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).
