APD Seeks Public's Help with 2023 Homicide

Aurora Detectives Asking for Public’s Help with ‘23 Double Homicide Case
Posted on 08/19/2024

(Aug. 19, 2024) – The Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit is asking for the public’s help with information in a 2023 double homicide in the 2200 block of Galena Street.

To date, the Aurora Police Department hasn’t received any tips or information about the case. Metro Denver Crime Stoppers recently announced it increased the reward for information to $4,500 from $2,000.

“The Major Crime Homicide Unit has worked diligently on this case for the last year, but we’ve reached the point where we need the public’s help to advance the investigation,” said Investigations Division Chief Mark Hildebrand. “We know somebody out there has information about this case. At least one vehicle drove away from the scene and that person has valuable information about what happened.”

During the early morning hours of Aug. 19, 2023, Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a report of an unresponsive man in an alley between Fulton and Galena Streets, just north of East 22nd Avenue. Once on scene, first responders observed the man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was deceased.

About 7 a.m., Major Crime Homicide Unit detectives responded to the alley. During the preliminary investigation, detectives located a second man a short distance from the original scene. That man had also sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was deceased.

The Adams County Coroner’s Office later identified the two victims as 27-year-old Kejuan Mays and 25-year-old Omar Williams.

The investigation to date has determined Mays and Williams were visiting with friends the night of Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, in downtown Denver. There is no indication the victims or their friends were involved in any altercations while in Denver. The two victims left in Williams’ Dodge Journey.

Investigators later obtained surveillance video of the Dodge Journey leaving the alley between Fulton and Galena Streets. Investigators believe the video captures the Journey leaving the scene after the murders.

The vehicle was later abandoned. It was recovered on Oct. 13, 2023, at an apartment complex near East Alameda Parkway and South Kittredge Street.

Mays’ parents, Alonso and Felishea Bradway, urge anyone with information to come forward, no matter how insignificant they think the tip might be. Mays was their first-born child, the oldest of four siblings and father to his own son who will be 3 years old next month.

“He was a great father and now my son will never know what it's like to raise his child,” Felishea Bradway said. “His brothers and sister will forever miss the person they looked up to. We just want closure. Somebody has the answers we're looking for. Somebody knows what happened to my son."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). There is a $4,500 reward for any information that leads to the identification and arrest of a suspect. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
