July 29, 2024 -- A fire concentrated in the laundry room of the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center in Aurora was swiftly extinguished by Aurora Fire Rescue this afternoon. The property has resumed operations and all public guest spaces are open and fully operational.
The fire was reported at approximately 4:30 p.m. and was fully stamped out by 5:15 p.m. Upon arrival, AFR crews observed smoke on the north side of the property, where the convention center is located. AFR Engine 16 and Engine 3 led the attack on the fire in the risers of the laundry room within the first floor of the convention center. The fire started in a laundry vent and emitted smoke into the first and second floors of the convention center.
In total, 22 fire apparatus and 62 personnel responded to the scene, including seven AFR fire engines, four AFR ladder trucks and a ladder truck from the South Adams County Fire Department.
Employees and all occupants in the convention center were quickly evacuated. Hotel guests also were briefly evacuated but were able to return to the hotel shortly afterward given that portion of the property was not impacted by the fire. The convention center was temporarily closed but guests also now have access to that side of the property. There were no reports of injuries stemming from the fire.
AFR thanks the South Adams County Fire Department for their assistance in responding to this call.
