Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a significant structure fire at approximately 10:30 pm near 700 North Fraser Street.
Upon arrival, AFR encountered heavy fire engulfing a two-story, three-plex building. Firefighters promptly initiated containment efforts and conducted searches to ensure the safety of occupants, including pets. One individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
The blaze resulted in the displacement of fourteen adults and six children due to extensive fire damage. The Red Cross is providing support to affected families.
Fire crews encountered intense heat conditions within the building and utilized four attack hose lines to extinguish the flames. Despite their efforts, all three units sustained substantial damage and are uninhabitable. Approximately 20 individuals were affected, with temporary housing assistance provided by the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Residents are urged to prioritize fire safety by creating a home escape plan that includes identifying multiple exit routes from each room. It's crucial that everyone in the household knows how to contact emergency services by dialing 911, and regular fire drills should be practiced.
