Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire near 15500 East Mississippi Avenue at approximately 5:30 pm.

AFR found a two-story strip mall with active fire. Fire crews located, confined, and extinguished the fire by deploying hose lines connected to fire hydrants. AFR also searched for any people or pets in the building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, the fire is out, and the building is tenable due to the fire crews' swift and decisive action. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

AFR would like to remind everyone about safety procedures for disposing of waste. Oil rags, batteries, and ashes are all fire hazards. Please ensure all oil rags and combustible materials are disposed of properly. Place oil rags into a fire-safe container. Waste batteries should be recycled or taken to hazardous household waste collection points, and ashes should never be disposed of in a waste can with other combustible materials.
