The Library and Cultural Services Department and Aurora Water are pleased to announce forthcoming projects improving services to the Aurora community. Nearly $4 million in federal money is supporting renovations at the Central Public Library and water valves across the city.

Infrastructure at the library will expand and improve, including a new space for teens that will function as a community hub and act as a space for youth.

“Creating welcoming places for youth to safely gather fuels positive community interactions”, said Ginger White Brunetti, Library and Cultural Services director. “This unique space will also foster a learning environment where teens can explore and develop STEM skills.”

The library has not had a major renovation since 1982, and the $3 million in funding is critical to improving the facility.

Another $900,000 supports Aurora Water to relocate and improve pressure regulating valves (PRVs). The valves were installed in the 1950s and 1960s and are used to regulate pressure in distribution systems which reduce main breaks. The new valves deliver safe drinking water to a diverse residential community.

“The PRV replacement program ensures system reliability and sustainability. It allows Aurora Water to move these valves to better locations, allowing for easier maintenance and improved worker safety,” said Aurora Water General Manager Marshall Brown. The funding allows Aurora Water to move up this project in its capital improvement plan priorities by several years.

The nearly $4 million for these projects came forth from the $12.2 million in Community Project Funding secured by Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06) in March 2024.

Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman is in support of these funds, saying, “The safe delivery of water and the access to knowledge afforded by our libraries are among the most important services we provide to the public.”

A ceremony to recognize these funds was held at the Central Public Library Monday, May 20.
