City of Aurora to honor 500 students at Aurora Scholars ceremonies April 23, 24 and 25

The city of Aurora will honor more than 500 students from over 80 schools in Aurora as part of its 16th annual Aurora Scholars program, powered by Aurora Public Library.

Students in Cherry Creek School District, Aurora Public Schools and private Aurora-area schools will be recognized at the following ceremonies: 5 and 7:30 p.m. April 23, 5 and 7:30 p.m. April 24, and 7 p.m. April 25; at Aurora Central Library, 14949 E. Alameda Parkway.

These ceremonies will be attended by representatives from Aurora Public Schools and Cherry Creek School District, city of Aurora mayor and council members and other dignitaries and city leaders.

The Aurora Scholars program – designed to identify those students who strongly contributed to the life and community of their respective schools – was created as a way for the city of Aurora, schools and families to come together to celebrate the achievements of Aurora’s future leaders.

Including grades from kindergarten through high school, this program recognizes one student from every grade level in most schools in Aurora. The Aurora Scholars program has honored more than 6,000 students since its inception and is coordinated by the Aurora Public Library, a division of the city’s Library and Cultural Services Department.

The selection of students is conducted by school principals, who may receive input from teachers and guidance counselors. The Aurora Scholars program aims to honor not just those who excel academically, but also those who are excellent athletes, great citizens, dedicated volunteers or otherwise make significant contributions within the school community.

At the Aurora Scholars ceremonies, students receive an award pin and a certificate signed by Aurora mayor. For more information on the Aurora Scholars program, visit AuroraGov.org/AuroraScholars.
