(March 14, 2024) – The Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit is investigating a homicide that occurred at a storage unit business in northwest Aurora.
About 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024, Aurora patrol officers responded to the storage unit business located in the 14700 block of East 40th Avenue to perform follow-up investigation on an unrelated incident. About the same time officers were arriving, a manager called Aurora911 to report a man said he just shot someone.
Officers searched the storage complex and located a 26-year-old Aurora man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers performed lifesaving actions, but the man died at the scene from his injuries. He will be identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.
The suspected shooter, later identified as 24-year-old Joaquin Enrique Cabral-Favela of Denver, was detained by officers for questioning. He was subsequently booked into the Aurora Jail on one charge of second-degree murder.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators joined patrol officers to process the scene. The suspected firearm was located and seized as evidence.
