Aurora Police Investigate Fatal Shooting in 6100-blk South Main Street

(October 1, 2023) - The Aurora Police Department's Major Crime Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting Saturday night in a parking lot of the Southlands mall.

Approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, Aurora911 received reports that someone had been shot near 6100 South Main Street. When officers arrived, they found a 15-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound. Lifesaving measures were attempted by first responders before the teen was transported to a local hospital where he passed away from his injuries. Witness testimony and evidence collected from the scene shows the suspects to be four or five black males who fled the scene in a black four-door sedan.

The investigation also shows that this encounter was a pre-planned meeting with the involved parties. There is no known threat to shoppers, however, Aurora police has increased patrol presence at the Southlands mall Sunday.

The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office will identify the deceased.

The Aurora Police Department is asking witnesses from the area, along with residents from the Wheatlands neighborhood near the mall to check surveillance cameras, including home security cameras, to see if anything from the incident was recorded.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).
