Aurora Man Arrested on Homicide Charges Following Thursday Stabbing

(July 14, 2023) – An Aurora man was arrested Thursday night after fatally stabbing another man in front of an apartment complex in the North Aurora neighborhood.

Nurendy Ropon, 22, was booked into the Aurora jail on charges of second-degree murder and felony menacing with a deadly weapon.

Aurora police officers responded to the report of a stabbing at 9:23 p.m. Thursday in the 1600 block of Alton Street. The investigation revealed Ropon and a 33-year-old man were arguing in front of the apartment complex when Ropon pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the neck.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries. The victim’s name will be released by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.

Ropon, who was still armed with a knife, was located a short distance from the crime scene. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Alton Street between East 16th and 17th avenues was closed for several hours for the investigation, which is being led by the Major Crime Homicide Unit.
