Aurora Police, Partner Agencies Announce Registration Enforcement Campaign
Posted on 06/21/2023

(June 21, 2023) – The Aurora Police Department in partnership with several regional agencies will be participating in an enforcement campaign targeting expired and unregistered vehicles.

The enforcement campaign begins Sunday and lasts through next Saturday, July 1. Joining Aurora police for the one-week enforcement period are the Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas county sheriff’s offices.

Officers will be on the lookout and ticketing motorists driving vehicles that are unregistered or significantly expired by more than three months. The fine for driving on tags that are expired by 60 or more days or for driving on an expired temporary permit is $93, according to state law.

The Aurora Police Department and its partners are encouraging residents to get caught up on their vehicle registration before the campaign kicks off this weekend. In addition to being legal, there are many benefits to registering a vehicle.

Money from vehicle registrations fund recreational opportunities, as well as road improvement projects throughout the state. The city of Aurora annually receives millions of dollars from the Colorado Department of Transportation for local projects funded by vehicle registrations. Motorists also can purchase a discounted annual state parks pass at the time of registration.
