(June 17, 2023) – The Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit is investigating a deadly vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred Friday night in Southwest Aurora.
Patrol officers responded at 9:58 p.m. Friday to a report of a crash on South Havana Street near East Tennessee Avenue. Because this location is on the border between Denver and Aurora, Denver Police and Denver Fire also responded. They located a deceased 46-year-old man, lying in the northbound lanes of Havana Street.
The involved vehicle, a Toyota Highlander, was traveling northbound on South Havana Street by a 36-year-old woman from Texas. The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation.
The pedestrian’s name will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
The roadway was closed for about three hours while investigators collected evidence, documented the scene, and spoke to witnesses. The investigation found that the pedestrian was crossing the street mid-block when he was struck by the Toyota Highlander.
The investigation is ongoing and will determine what factors contributed to the crash.
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).
The crash marks the 32nd traffic-related death this year in Aurora.
