(May 26, 2023) — A Denver man was arrested Thursday night after leaving the scene of a fatal vehicle versus bicycle crash in North Aurora.
Aurora patrol officers responded at 11:12 p.m. Thursday to a report of a crash near East Colfax Avenue and North Joliet Street. Once on scene, officers found a 56-year-old man lying in the eastbound lanes with serious injuries. The victim died at the scene.
Officers developed information a black 2020 Nissan Altima was involved in the crash. The investigation led officers to the 13600 block of East Colfax where shortly after 3 a.m. they located the Altima and the driver, 21-year-old Jose Moya.
The Altima had damage consistent with striking a bicycle and Moya admitted to being involved in a crash. He was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
East Colfax Avenue was closed in both directions between north Joliet and Kingston streets for almost four hours. The roadway reopened at 3 a.m.
The victim will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office following notification of next of kin.
This is the 26th traffic-related fatality this year in Aurora.
