Aurora, CO. - At 6:20 a.m. this morning, Aurora Fire Rescue units were dispatched to a waterflow alarm/fire sprinkler activation in a large multi story, apartment building. Upon arrival, crews investigated and found active fire in one of the building’s dumpsters and upgraded the response adding additional units for fire ground control, evacuation and suppression efforts due to the size and complexity of the residential building.
AFR crews quickly brought the fire under control then began ventilation of the structure and investigating for fire extension into hidden areas of the building. No injuries to any occupants of the building reported during searches of the structure.
The building's sprinkler system activated and was shut down by crews at the control center to mitigate additional hazards in and around the structure.
Crews remained on scene investigating with certain areas of the building blocked off to preserve any potential evidence.
Aurora Fire Rescue asks for the patience of resident's in the building as we work to get all areas re-open to them. This is a great reminder for community members, especially those who live in large apartment buildings, to develop and practice an evacuation plan in case of emergency.
